OnePlus Accused for collecting User Data without Permission

OnePlus, Shenzhen based Chinese smartphone manufacturer startup , which very few people knew 2-3 years back , is now established as a Premium Brand. People love them as they bring Flagship Killer (that’s what they call their Handsets) at a Reasonable Price.

But things are not going well for the Company these days.  After the Fiasco of Tampering with Benchmarks of OnePlus 5, they are back in news again.

According to Chris Moore, a Tech Blogger from UK,  OnePlus is collecting user data through Hidden Features.

The Chinese company is collecting details like phone number, IMEI number, IMSI number, serial number, MAC address, mobile network names and more from their active devices , he told as he uploaded a Pic on Twitter regarding this.

When Asked to OnePlus about the Analytics tracking, the company responded with the below statement:

“We securely transmit analytics in two different streams over HTTPS to an Amazon server. The first stream is usage analytics, which we collect in order for us to more precisely fine tune our software according to user behavior. This transmission of usage activity can be turned off by navigating to ‘Settings’ -> ‘Advanced’ -> ‘Join user experience program’. The second stream is device information, which we collect to provide better after-sales support.

Apparently , there’s an option to disable it but it may result in Device Functionality issues . As it’s connected to Device manager. Well , this was not expected from OnePlus.
